Commercial Trial Activity

BRIC can also provide scanning capacity for commercial clinical trials. All BRIC staff undergo GCP training with regular updates. BRIC is a core area of the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (WTCRF) therefore BRIC study governance and management is done using systems developed in conjunction with the WTCRF. The WTCRF has also recently been certified to carry out Phase I trials having undergone rigorous MHRA inspection of its research governance systems and facilities. The WTCRF is the first academic research unit to be granted Phase I accreditation, and at the time of writing it is the only Phase I unit in Scotland.

Scanning for multi-site trials at development stages Phase II and Phase III has been done at BRIC, working with a number of large Pharma companies (Amgen, BioGen, GSK, Merck Serono, Novartis, Pfizer, Servier and Wyeth), clinical research organisations (CROs) (Chiltern, PRA international, Quintiles) and specialist imaging CROs (BioClinca, Bio-imaging, Icon Medical Imaging, IXICO, Perceptive and Virtualscopics). Therefore BRIC has experience in the set up and conduct of these trials, plus the scanner qualification, data handling and data transfer processes that they entail.
